Pilar Medina was born in 1929 in Utuado, Puerto Rico, into a middle class working family. She lived in San Carlos, a vicinity of Utuado, until the age of seven. She attended St. Michael’s Catholic School until the nineth grade and then went to public high school for two years. In 1945 her family moved to New York where she finished her education in Julia Richman High School. Afterwards, she attended Spencer Secretarial School. She worked in different trades and one day began what had been her lifetime dream, writing. Thanks to her obstinacy and dedication, today her lifetime dream has materialized with the publication of her first book of poetry, “Del Pajaro Las Dos Alas.” Pilar lives in the Bronx, with her husband Juan Vergara. She still works at her day job at the age of 81 years old.
